Death Awaits Us ...None Too Soon !

April 16th 2008 13:30
This may be a morbid topic for some but it is reality, none the less!

In the dark dim future lies a big black panther , lurking , lurking , waiting to find you!
Does not matter how old you are , how short , how tall, how thin or rotund . It does not care if you are smart , whitty , flamboyant , precious , loud , obnoxious or loving and sweet.
It does not discern by your hair colour, skin or eys for that matter , nor does it prefer any religion or race .

Often there is no rhyme or reason for the departure of the human from this world. Other times the human may be sick or ailing or the body has broken down or there has been an unfortunate accident.

Nevertheless the human disappears from this world . The big black panther pounces and whoosh you were hear one minute and the next your gone!

The human one minute, breathing, laughing, smiling, crying , playing , loving, sleeping, sneezing , doing all the things humans on this planet do. In a blink of an eye the human is no longer there.
What does living mean? Once the human dies the memory is all that is left behind for the others to remember and clutch onto , good or bad, happy or sad, humorous or aggravating , whatever they may be .

Memories are all that is left of this human who was once nurtured ,loved and carressed by a mother who waited for a bundle of joy , a baby ,to be placed in her arms.
Memories are all that is left for a family when a loved one or loved ones have departed this place we call earth.

Maybe your image of death as an inevitable end for us all is different to mine. I just find it easier to imagine the panther lurking , hiding in the undergrowth , taking its time , watching and waiting for the moment to pounce. I do not look at the panther as evil or vicious ,just biding its time knowing it can catch something in the near future.

As humans we know it is there but we get on with our daily lives not thinking about it. Some humans though , do think about it and it could be very distressing for them as the fear of dying is very scary as you never know when your time is up!

In the past 12months I have buried just about all the relatives I had in the world. Hence my pondering on " Death awaits us all".
I have buried my father , 3 aunts , 2 cousins and only yesterday an uncle also .
Some had lived wonderful, long lives mixed with wars ,revolutions, depression and many more challenges that this world has to offer.
They were mostly in their 70' and 80's but some only in their 50's they were close members of my family and a close knit one .Even though we were thrown to the corners of the world and lived far apart we always stayed in touch .

From these deaths a pandoras box has now also opened , I am trying to piece together generations of my family history so that in the future there will be a record of my ancestors so that future generations may trace their history.
I am the only one who knows anything about the deceased relatives and I find it important to do this for future generations that may follow me.

Not everyone would be interested in tracing their history but the memories ,for me, are very strong ,of a warm and loving family that once was and all that remains of them now ,are the plots in the cemetery with headstones reminding us that they rest in peace and they once were part of our lives and are no more .

The panther lurking will pounce on us all!

I am so sorry you have had so much sadness in such a short period of time. I try to have a sense of humour when talking about death to my family. I have told them all I want a motown funeral with Aretha Franklin wailing in the background and lots of good music, and then I am going wherever the music is !! I also told my son to bury me standing up in case I decide to get back out again.

Thanks for your comment and kind words !
I too have told the family , when I go it is Party Time!
I actually like the funeral celebrations of New Orleans , good Jazz music and a street celebration of some kind, great food and drink!
As to whether I want to be buried or cremated and my ashes turned into an angel that is mixed with concrete and sits in the garden ...not decided on that one yet .
Hopefully I still have time to make that last decision and write it down as a dying wish.
