Gambling in Oz

January 22nd 2012 07:05
Disappointment reigns in the meer fact that the clubs and the poker machine industry and general gambling fraternity has such pull in or society today.

People are in dire straits they cannot pay mortgages, many people are not able to pay bills , have food on the table etc. They are though able to bet on horses, poker machines, the tennis the football , the cricket , the dogs even how fast the cockroaches can race, anything really that is deemed as fair sport. The there is scratchies, lotto and the list goes on, people are trying to chase that ultimate win in the hope they can be rich !!!!

Yes , you do get the lucky ones . ( many more losers than winners) How many do suffer because of the gambling problems they have or someone in their family has ?

Rags to riches can happen as they say and if you don't try you don't win but as I see it the only winners are the people who set up gambling sites, gambling houses, etc.

Sport should be free of all betting as what does it lead to as we have seen, the big C word....CORRUPTION!!! Have a look at the Cricket match fixing or any other sport for that matter.

Then the sports people become the baddies....TEMPTATION at all cost is placed before them , and the sport is then not true, but FIXED!!!

Whilst watching the tennis the other night, I was totally affronted by this woman advertising the sports betting.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Back off and let me enjoy my TENNIS!!!

Leave people to enjoy sport for all its beauty.

Whilst I may have the odd blue moon lotto ticket and the once a year on Melbourne Cup bet , I still do not condone the betting that takes places daily for millions.

The clubs are , for some a place of work but for others it is a place of splashing about money they can ill afford to lose.

So no go at present for putting in the stops for addicted gamblers. It would not hurt any of us in any way just to give less money to the money hungry people that run the gambling places.
Let the gamblers have no food on the table , let them end up on the streets, their kids will manage somehow.

Where has social thoughtfullness taken us all?
NOWHERE it seems , as the big boys have no conscience about the little person.

Make money on the gamblers is the catch cry , money , money , money!!!

Something is rotten in Oz !
Gambling in the forms we have aspired to lately is a Cancerous disease.

The Money Makers rule us all and gambling is a problem in Oz but unless everyone speaks up from both sides of Govt , not just one independent , heaven help the BATTLERS who GAMBLE!!

As much as there is "problem gambling", I think most people who gamble regularly do it for a hobby. I personally lost $20 on pokies on two occasions ever and decided it was a waste of time and money however with betting on the horses, particularly if you make a day at the track, it's a social experience and way to see magnificent creatures up close. Also, at the casino, some people like the challenge of poker or blackjack, it is fun to test the brain.

Of course, what normal person would be there at ten in the morning on a weekday? Perhaps the hours should be regulated. I think pokies kill the spirit of many pubs, get a band on instead.
