Ms Indi... Wide open Eyes on India!
January 9th 2008 13:03
Over a number of years I have been travelling in and out of India.
To me it is amagical colourful place to others it is a scary place.
Masses of people everywhere , the smells the sights quite overpowering they say.
Of course to me India is pure magic, seas of colour , vibrant places , teaming with beaming faces.
Yes there is awful poverty in many villages and towns but there is also great wealth.Hopefully one day Indians will not have such great divisions in their society.
In the past few years though the changes have been amazingly dramatic.
Shopping malls popping up everywhere, the MTR being built in Delhi , then there is of course Bollywood and the music , dancing and wonderful stories of love lost , villains and family disagreements. Always though full of colour and melodrama.
Then there is the wonderful talent of Artisans everywhere, no other country I have been to, have I seen so much creative force and that is probably what draws me back time and time again. Your text goes hereYour text goes hereYour text goes here
One can lose themselves in India , there is a freedom that is hard to describe and a sense of deep spirituality. You can visit shrines, markets , bazaars and then visit craft villages where they make rugs , cut jewellery, paint in semi precious stones which have been crushed, watch marble being cut and laid, learn to meditate , take on yoga classes , learn aryuveda. Endless things happening, but the most amazing event I have been too on a number of occasions are the WEDDINGS!!!
If you have never have experienced an Indian wedding then you have just not experienced life!
Poor or rich it is a time of great joy , colour, dancing and of course feasting.
I have been to many different kinds of Indian weddings but they never cease to amaze me.
Also the fact that often Indian couples are matched through a relative or a marriage broker. Some do marry for love but more often then not even today the husband and wife are matched according to status in the community, the dates of their births, by their names , their professions , all must be looked into to find the perfect partner.
Unfortunately some marriages which are meant to be made in Heaven are not always good marriages and the bride must leave her home and live with the in 'laws. A tough call at any time , the young brides are often at the mercy of the new family and some family members think it is a right to abuse the new bride in the house and the young woman's life can turn out to be very sad.
Not all marriages turn out badly but there is still a need for women in India to be treated fairly as also the needs of justice and equality need to be better placed .
Like all places Rome was not built in a Day and neither will India change rapidly.
It will be slow and steady and hopefully there will one day be more equality between the sexes.
Back to these Indian weddings.....my favourite event of all time!
The Mehindi Art on ones hands is amazing, then there is the bangle ceremony and the ladies are so stunning in the beautiful saris, cholis that appear on the day of the wedding.
Ladies are so magnificent in their colours and also some of the men opt for traditional dress for the occasion and wow girls , they look great! I also love it when the groom arrives on his horse and sometimes even an elephant. The streets are buzzing .
My favourite food at the weddings is Jellibee and I can just smell and taste it bubbling in the ghee. It is rather fattening but hey weddings you can break the Diet! Dancing is great as the music can be so sensational.
A wedding is the most important event in an Indian household and great planning must take place .

It does all of west Delhi and other areas . It has as yet to go as far as south Delhi but still it has opened up Delhi immensely.
Living in India is not hard but it takes time to adjust to a few things.
I am sure if you took that option you would enjoy the diversity of the country.
